Come to our party in the east village this Friday!

This has been an amazing spring for the Theory crew; everybody's been making big moves all over the place. Whether they're dropping new albums, performing or showing in amazing places, getting shows on TV or just handling their biz with style, a lot of the people who make our parties happen have been having a great run of luck. Break out of the grind this Friday and join us as we celebrate our outrageous fortune…
Here's the details:
When: Friday May 25, 9pm-4am
Where: Antique at China 1
Downstairs at 50 Avenue B (Between 3rd and 4th Streets) ( Map)
No joke, China 1 is the coolest place that Theory has ever had a party at. Picture this: a chill and lovely Pan-Asian restaurant/lounge on street level with sinfully opulent party rooms below, all on one of the coolest blocks in the East Village. We've been working with the owner and management of China 1 on this party for a couple of months now, and they're a bunch of great people who share our twin passions for great cultural experiences and great parties. Very recently they decided to open up a new entrance straight to the downstairs rooms and rename them Antique, and Theory is proud to be putting up one of the first events in the newly rededicated space.
What: The Galleryless Gallery
Among the many other wonderful things at Antique, the DJ and chill out rooms are equipped with two new hi-def digital projectors. While the multi-talented Voidstar Runner makes fractal madness along with the music on one screen, we'll be using the other to host a new kind of art show, The Galleryless Gallery. Theory is an group with its roots in the arts, and we love nothing better than seeing works by new artists in spaces where cool and talented people can hang out and meet one another. With that in mind, we're going to be using the great setup at Antique to make an open exhibition of digital art by some great artists you already know, a few that you don't, and maybe even you yourself- we're still accepting submissions until Wednesday, and you can hit us up if you want more details on that.
And a bit on the musicians…
Who: Verse
Verse is one half of the phenomenal mashup DJ duo It's Overture, and he'll be spinning early and late sets with us this Friday. At the last party we did, It's Overture kept the place packed and dancing for nearly half an hour after we were supposed to close up, and the tracks they were playing were just too good for us to cut them off. Verse's partner-in-Overture, Macabee, couldn't make it out for this one, but both of the DJs are in the Overture lab even as I write this putting their heads together on new blends for this Friday. Verse will be mixing 80's, hip-hop, techno, funk and the kitchen sink.
Who: 100 dBs
100dBs has been a busy man this spring, dropping Brenner's Breaks Volume 1 and making other big moves non-stop: new tracks with Ryan O'Neil and a host of other amazing MCs, performances all over the northeast and occasional appearances to drop some science for the Theory crew. We're lucky enough to have him on back hand this Friday to DJ for Ryan O'Neil and Kerosene (more on them below) as well as a late night solo set to keep things bouncing into the wee hours. 100 dBs mixes hip-hop, funk, reggae and dancehall.
Who: Ryan O'Neil
Ryan O'Neil, the One Hand Bandit of Queens, is a man of many words and lots of action. Ryan spent the spring non-stop hustling all around the five boroughs and beyond, lighting up mics all over the east coast while recording over a dozen new tracks for his solo debut album, coming this Summer. Catch some of that new goodness from our favorite MC this Friday, backed with beats by 100 dBs and surprise guest vocalists...
Who: Kerosene
This Friday will be Kerosene's second show with us, and y'all need to check him out: he's one of the best reggae and dancehall vocalists I've ever seen, and he absolutely killed the opening set we started him off with at Niagara last month. We're bringing him back and moving him to a better timeslot for this Friday, and trust me when I say that he will not disappoint. 100 dBs on beats.
Who: OutputMessage
OutputMessage will be coming up from DC this Friday to open our evening's entertainment as his Theory debut. He's taking the brave opening slot at 9 pm, dropping a distinctive style of studio-distorted hip-hop, pop electronic and soul that 100 dBs calls "Crack Pop." Come out early and check the technique!
All of that plus some special surprises, free tarot card readings and the hottest merch volunteers in NYC; kick off your memorial day weekend in style with us this Friday!
Cheers,
Theory
P.S. If you're in the area before doors open this Friday and you're looking for a place to eat or chill, China 1 on street level has great food, good prices, and live jazz from a great ensemble. They have all of these things every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night now, and the great food and good prices over the rest of the week too.
If you want to pass this along, pass it along, but don't harass people with it- thanks!
